Detection of androgenic activity of chemicals
Validated Method Company 2010
European Union Reference Laboratory for Alternatives to Animal Testing, Ispra, Italy
The androgen receptor transcriptional activation assay (ARTA) uses the manipulated osteosarcoma cell line U2-OS, which can express both the human androgen receptor and luciferase. The luciferase activity is determined optically. The measurements and the classification model predict whether substances act as agonists or antagonists of androgenic activity. This method is intended for screening purposes.
Validated and regulatory accepted under TM2010-07 (EU) by EURL ECVAM (TSAR list), OECD Test No. 458.
