The serum of patients with advanced prostate or colon cancer was examined after twelve weeks of whole-body electromyostimulation training. The study found that the serum of these patients inhibited the proliferation of cancer cells and increased their apoptosis. Furthermore, exercise-sensitive genes in prostate cancer cells were identified that may be involved in the exercise-mediated regulation of malignant cell growth and apoptosis.
The study concludes that appropriate physical activity should be part of multimodal cancer therapy.
