The human epidermal growth factor receptors (ErbB or Her) are a family of four signal transduction proteins with intracellular domains that have tyrosine kinase
activity. Amplification or overexpression of Her2 disrupts normal cell control mechanisms and gives rise to aggressive tumor cells. In the present study, the researchers constructed an immunotoxin specific for Her2 and its cytotoxicity of probed in vitro on established human cancer cell lines. The generated immunotoxin displayed high cytotoxic capacities and could be a therapeutic candidate against Her2+ cancer.
