P.O.P.: training device for laparoscopic surgeries
CompanyOptimist Ltd., Innsbruck, Austria
Laparoscopic surgery requires special psychomotor and surgical skills which can be trained on the POP-Trainer (pulsating organ perfusion). An organ can be placed and instruments inserted In the device in order to learn basic skills like suturing, clipping, knot tying and cutting which are shown on a screen. Most organs can be perfused and hence simulate a pulse. Surgeries like partial nephrectomy, total nephrectomy, and pyeloplasty can be performed. Simulations of standard colorectal and gastric procedures cholecystectomy, appendectomy, suturing and knotting techniques are also available. Complication management with special focus on team coordination and robotic-assisted surgery can be trained as well.
It is a human-relevant training method only if no animal organs are used.
