The 3T3 NRU cytotoxicity assay employs the BALB/c3T3 cell line and is based on the ability of viable cells to incorporate and bind the dye Neutral Red (NR), measured spectrophotometrically. The basic concept of basal cytotoxicity assays is that chemicals exert their toxic effects by disrupting structures and functions universal to all cells. Validated and regulatory approved under TM2007-03 (EU) by EURL ECVAM (TSAR list), ECHA 17-G-18-EN.
