Microfluidic platform enables fully automated sample preparation for next generation sequencing applications
CompanyINTEGRA Biosciences GmbH, Biebertal, Germany
To optimize sample preparation for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) applications, INTEGRA Biosciences has developed the MIRO CANVAS microfluidic system. The system enables complete walk-away automation in creating verified library preparation and hybridization protocols. The researchers pipette the samples and reagents to be prepared into specially developed MIRO cartridges, which are based on digital microfluidic technology that uses electromechanical forces to move the sample droplets across an electrode field. Using integrated software, researchers can set up their application in just a few minutes via touch screen. The system then handles all sample preparation steps, including thermal cycling and magnetic bead operations. Important application areas in which MIRO CANVAS can be used include long-read sequencing, target enrichment and on-demand processing. In summary, the method reduces sources of human error and accelerates NGS studies by fully automating previous critical and time-consuming work steps and can thereby help to generate relevant new findings in the field of genetics.
