The pathogenicity of SARS-CoV-1 and SARS‐CoV‐2 are higher compared to other coronavirus family members. The reason has already been revealed by the identification of the so-called SARS‐unique domain (SUD). It encodes a protein that binds to the cell's ribosomes to enhance translation of the coronavirus proteins, but not of the host proteins. A deeper understanding of the pathogenic virus is essential to identify possible drug targets. By screening the human proteome with the help of yeast-2-hybrid screen interaction, a human cell line and crystal structure analysis, the stimulating components of the host translation machinery could be identified.
